Safety First!

Warning - Large drain pipes and inlet structures can present safety risks.

High head pressure combined with large water flow can create significant suction forces that could pull people or animals into the drain where they could be severely injured, crushed or drowned.

Larger structures may be considered confined spaces.

Hazardous gasses can accumulate inside the structure and cause an asphyxiation risk.

People can become trapped inside the structure.

Removing an injured victim from a structure can be difficult and dangerous to others.

Do not enter these structures without proper training and equipment.

People or animals could fall into structures and become trapped.  Locking lids are provided to prevent accidental access.   Keep these lids in place.

Use appropriate fencing and safety barriers to prevent accidental access.

Warning - Working in a trench, ditch or hole is dangerous.

The sides of trenches can cave in unexpectedly.

Soil spoils can slide into the trench unexpectedly.

Soil is very dense and heavy – small amounts can easily bury or crush you leading to severe injury, suffocation or death.

Use appropriate precautions.

Follow safe excavation work practices.

Warning - Working with heavy equipment is dangerous.

Do not operate heavy equipment without proper training.

Follow safe work practices.

Warning - Stored water can be dangerous.

Incredible energy can be released during an unexpected dam or berm failure.

Downstream property can be destroyed.

People or animals can be consumed by flood waters, injured or killed.
